Race Series Rules and Guidelines: (2008-2009)
Health First Health Plans & Running Zone welcome you to the 4th annual Running Zone Race Series. Our race series consists of five events. Our series has 3 5K’s, a 3K and a 2 miler. We offer shorter distances, with a maximun distance of 5K, to help promote participation by walkers as well as runners.
We have a Team Challenge this year where corporations or groups of individuals (minimum 5 team members) can register a team and compete against one another for the top three teams for each race as well as the series.
Take the Corporate Challenge! If you and other employees from your company want to participate in the Corporate Challenge, get a team together. The more corporate team members, the better chance of winning. Details of this fun new program are explained in detail under the Corporate Challenge section below.
Awards will also be given to the top three elementary or middle schools that have the largest participation. The School Team Challenge applies to each race as well as the series.
All of our series races will be scored using Champion Chip timing this year! Our series offers $3,300 in gift certificates and prizes available to the top finishers.

Team Challenge:
This year we are offering a team competition for each of our races as well as the series. Teams must participate in at least three series races to be eligible for the series award. Each team consists of at least five members with one of the members being the opposite sex. The top four of the same sex and the 1st member of the opposite sex will be scored. Awards will be given to the top three teams. (No Team race day registration)
Corporate Challenge:
This year we have added a Corporate Challenge!!! Teams must consist of only the corporation’s employees and their family members. Each corporate team must have at least 5 employees with one of the employees being the opposite sex. However, the more participation you have the larger your team score will be and the better chance you have of winning.
The scoring of the Corporate Team Challenge will be as follows:
Each team member will earn points based on their finishing place in relation to their overall place in the race. Points will be calculated for each team member by taking the total finishers and subtracting the team members finishing place. (1st place and last place will have one extra point added to the score). Once all team member’s individual scores are calculated, the total team members points will be accumulated to arrive at the total team score. The team with the highest overall points, wins the Corporate Challenge.
For Example:
Total Finishers of Race 100 Finishers
Team 1:
Sally Placed 10th 100-10=90
Jim Placed 20th 100-20=80
Scott Placed 25th 100-25=75
Frank Placed 30th 100-30=70
Mary Placed 35th 100-35=65
Total Team Score = 380 Points
This promotes both the finishing place as well as the overall participation levels. There is not limit to the number of team members. The more team members you have, the higher your team score. The Corporate Challenge will be awarded for each race as well as the Series.
In addition to the team members participating in the Corporate Challenge, a team will automatically be entered in Team Challenge if they meet the eligibility requirements of five team members with one of the members being the opposite sex.
(No Team race day registration)
School Team Challenge: (Elementary and Middle Schools Only)
An award will be given to the top three elementary or middle schools that have the largest participation. The School Team Challenge applies to each race as well as the series. Schools must participate in at least three series races to be eligible for the series award.
